William Sears coined a certain phrase called attachment parenting. It is a parenting philosophy taking its root on the principles of attachment theory in developmental psychology. It is also called secure attachment where in a strong emotional bond with parents during childhood becomes the ground for secure, emotionally emphatic relationship when one reaches adulthood. Taking its root from attachment theory, attachment parenting is developed. The theory gives us an idea that the child or infant has the tendency to bargain closeness to another person and feel the security and love when that person is there. While in attachment theory, the child is attached to their parents mainly because they are human beings and human begins are social beings. They are not attached mainly because they need another human being to fill in their need for affection and attachment which is a normal part of a child�s' development.
Seven B's is Dr. Sears' attachment tool tends to bring out the best n your babies by implementing a certain type of caring style. The seven B's includes birth bonding, breastfeeding, baby-wearing, bedding close to baby, belief in the language value of your baby's cry and beware of the baby trainers and balance.
Another reminder that Dr. Sears gives out to al parents is that Attachment Parenting is a starter style and that there could be other factors that could prevent parents from practicing the seven B's. Be it medical, environmental, or family circumstances, it should be remembered that the seven B's are not considered strict rules where baby's cues and level of needs are to be taken, understood, recognized and responded upon.
There is also an emphasis on AP as a tool and not a step. A tool can be diversified and individually practiced base on what is useful and applicable where in a step is to be practiced strictly and the non-fulfillment of one process makes the whole scene a mess. The last reminder that Dr. Sears gave is to stick with what is working for them and adjust the tolls that are not.
